Remix Sunday 14

By Xrista (of the band In Situ)
We're magic, you know? Everything about us.

Many people have been having trouble with the music on the site. It's not just you, don't worry. While I hope to get this problem smoothed out, it may not happen how'd I'd like it to happen. So as a solution for now (and possibly in perpetuity), Remix Sunday (and Sample Wednesday) will be served via ezarchive. This may slow down rates a little (might also speed them up), but it should provide access for everyone. Even you obsolete IE users. For real though, IE sucks, it sucks real real bad. Do yourself a favor and download Firefox. Please let me know if you guys continue to have problems.

"Deap Sea Diver" (The Bomarr Monk Remix) - Grizzly Bear*
"Sunday Séance" (Loka Remix) - Blockhead*
"6 Underground" (Nellee Hooper Edit) - Sneaker Pimps
"Roses Fade" (Mojo Mix) - Luscious Jackson
"Panic Attack" ft. 3D (Ape Sounds Remix) - UNKLE
"Juggle Tings Proper" (El-P Remix) - Roots Manuva *fixed
"Circles" (Propellerheads Remix) - Soul Coughing
"Weekend" (James Iha Mix) - Ladytron
"The Single" (Early Unreleased DFA Mix) - Automato*

* = love these, as I do

ps. I'll be going back and ezarchiving old Remix Sundays for those of you who didn't get last week's. Look out for reupped Remix Sunday 13 in a few minutes. The rest will take me a while.

myspace me, or else.

i don't have my copy of 'brand new second hand' to hand (hah) right now to check for sure, but that roots manuva track sounds like the original... unless el-p has done the most subtle remix ever?! don't know if someone's fooled you with some dodgy tagging?

shit! you're right, damn you got me. I suspected that when I heard the drums- I was like either El was lazy or this is not the el remix. The real remix will be up in a minute. I had that the whole time it turns out. Just labeled wrong.

aight, it's up now. i must say the original is more interesting. it's a pretty damn subtle elp mix. not one of his shining moments.

H-
You are the best, dude. Any time you want to guest post again, you have an open invitation at my corner.
I've already gotten compliments on teh look.

Thanks again.

Haha, cheers man! Yeah I agree, don't think el's really added much of interest unfortunately.. still, it's good to know that mr manuva's been catching attention overseas! Extra thanks for that automato track as well, I got their album when it first dropped and loved it but there's been pretty much nothing from them since (heard they split but seems impossible to confirm this anywhere?!)

The rumors are true tomatron. A couple of us here at Palms Out went to high school with a couple of the boys in Automato, I was a big fan back before they were called Automato, back when they were called 6 Dimension Formula or 6DF. I'm not sure what most of them are doing, but now Nick the drummer (and the most powerful musical force in the band in my opinion) plays the electric drum kit for The Juan Maclean. I've got lots of fun unreleased stuff from these boys.

Aw that's balls! Well at least now i know i guess :-( ... and if it meant the juan maclean was born then i guess things aren't all bad!

Hah i just googled '6 dimension formula' and all i got was your previous post about the DFA, automato splitting up, and another guy saying that if you google '6 dimension formula' you get nothing. I am SO last january... I'll keep an eye on palmsout in case you ever fancy postng any 'fun unreleased stuff' ;-)

Ps also if you're struggling for any remix sunday stuff then i might be able to help out with stuff from across the pond, got a fair amount of stuff from labels like grand central, fat city, ninja tune, warp etc if required.. i really like this feature, it's cool! You can send me messages through http://www.last.fm/user/tomatron/

Indeed. I'd be way curious to hear any additional Automato stuff which didn't ultimatly make the record. I've been trying to get a hold of the B-Side to the British realese of 'Single' for a bit now. DFA made them sound to akin to robots, to suit my taste at least.

yeah, i've got lots of old pre DFA stuff. i dont have much more DFA work, there isnt any. But I do have early mixes of the album, and a version of The Let Go which never should have been replaced with the boring dance track they put on the album. not the "alternate 3" version they offered online for a while. version 1. thatll surface at some point for sure.

send me some track you think i might not have, some hot fiyah, and i'll be psyched. palmsout@gmail.com

I'm a new reader here. Stumbled across your blog quite by accident, but what a treat! I knew it was a wonderful thing, but when I found that you posted the Propellerheads remix of "Circles" (I miss Soul Coughing terribly. Doughty is great, but not the same.), it sealed the deal ... you've got a dedicated new reader! Thanks, several times over.

oi, halden. jon from DFA pointed this out to me, wondering who you were. If you would like some more DFA era unreleased bside stuff let me know. There were many versions of 'the let go' (6 I think?), a 'bonus beats' for "gold of desert kings" for a 12" that never got released, and an extended version of my casio that had mista sinista doing a "mardi gras" routine that got cut for sample clearance reasons. There are also a couple of other extended version of songs that were the 'dubs' from which the songs were refined and maybe a vocal version of "life is a cabaret." I never imagined anybody would care, but let me know and i'll try to dig them up and make you a CD or something.

I wouldn't go so far as to say AUTOMATO broke up. Just, uh, doing our own stuff as of now. Perhaps, somewhere in the distant future there will be new stuff. We started writing new songs/working on demos before everyone went their seperate ways, some of which I still really like. I actually just recorded with Jesse a few weeks ago.

hope you're well,
nick

Hey, I've only just found this blog. Any chance you could shoehorn the Ape Sounds remix of UNKLE and the Blockhead (Loka remix) on an upcoming Remix Sunday? Here's hoping. Keep it up, this is quality. All the best, Jimmy
